Polegate is a small town and civil parish in Wealden, East Sussex, England, lying just inland from the south coast. It occupies a convenient spot at the junction of the A27 and A22 and is served by the East Coastway line, giving regular rail links to Eastbourne, Brighton and beyond. The parish sits close to the lowland wetland of the Pevensey Levels and within easy reach of the South Downs, so countryside, birdlife and coastal scenery are all nearby.
Originally expanded in the Victorian period as a railway junction, Polegate still shows Victorian architecture around the station and parish centre. Today it functions largely as a residential and commuter community with local shops, light industry and active community groups, while its location makes it popular for walking, birdwatching and easy day trips to nearby towns such as Lewes and Hastings.
