Rayne is a small rural parish in the district of Braintree, in north Essex, England, set among rolling arable countryside a few miles from the market town of Braintree. Its origins are agricultural and the village retains a scattering of historic cottages and a notable parish church, giving a pronounced sense of place and continuity with the past.
Today the community is quiet and village-oriented, with a village hall, local gatherings and occasional fetes, while much of the local economy remains tied to farming and to people commuting to nearby towns for work; its appeal lies in that tucked-away rural character and the preservation of local historic fabric rather than any large-scale development.
