The village of Beachley sits on a narrow peninsula at the meeting of the River Severn and the River Wye, on the southern edge of the Forest of Dean district in Gloucestershire, England. Its location gives dramatic tidal-estuary scenery with mudflats and saltmarsh, strong currents and wide views towards the Severn Bridges and Chepstow across the water, and it lies close to the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Beachley’s character is a mix of quiet residential lanes, farmland and a longstanding military presence centred on Beachley Barracks, with relatively few local amenities so many people look to nearby towns for services and work. Historically important for river and military activity, today the peninsula is valued for birdwatching, coastal walks and the particular confluence of natural and strategic geography that has shaped its economy and social life.
