Brimscombe and Thrupp sit in the steep, wooded valleys just east of Stroud in Gloucestershire, England, where the old industrial landscape of mills, terraces and railway earthworks meets the green corridors of the River Frome and the restored sections of the Thames and Severn Canal. The area shows a strong 19th‑century legacy: former textile and engineering works clustered around canal wharves and a compact port area, some of which have been conserved or converted, giving a visible link to the industrial revolution that shaped much of the Stroud Valleys.
Today the villages combine a working economy of small businesses, workshops and light industry with a lively community life shaped by canal volunteers, walking and boating visitors and local groups, while many residents commute to nearby towns. Its proximity to the Cotswolds and the towpaths and green spaces makes it attractive for outdoor recreation, and recent regeneration around the port area has encouraged cafes, events and grassroots cultural activity without losing the area’s industrial character.
