The village of Painswick sits on a ridge in the heart of the Cotswolds, within the district of Stroud in Gloucestershire, England. Its compact streets of honey‑coloured Cotswold stone and panoramic views from Painswick Beacon have earned it the affectionate nickname "Queen of the Cotswolds".
Historically the village prospered on the wool and cloth trade and still feels very much like a living heritage place: the parish of St Mary is famed for its 99 yew trees and there is the whimsical 18th‑century Rococo Garden nearby. Today Painswick’s economy leans on tourism, local crafts and commuters, with plenty of walking routes and community events that underline its rural and architectural charm.
