Uley is a small village in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, in the western edge of the Cotswolds and overlooking the Severn Vale in England. It sits close to the Cotswold escarpment so the surrounding countryside is hilly and picturesque, popular with walkers and those seeking a rural base not far from larger towns.
The village is noted for its archaeology and history - the Iron Age hill fort Uley Bury and the nearby Neolithic long barrow Hetty Pegler's Tump are local highlights - and that heritage feeds a modest tourism trade. Today Uley combines farming and small local businesses with a commuter population, and retains a strong village community with clubs, a village hall and traditional pubs.
