Whitchurch is a historic market town in Basingstoke and Deane, Hampshire, England, sited on the banks of the River Test. Its riverside location on a classic chalk stream helped establish river-powered industry here; the much-photographed Whitchurch Silk Mill survives as a working mill and small museum and is a tangible reminder of the town’s industrial and milling past.
The town still has a busy high street of independent shops, pubs and community facilities and acts as a local centre and commuter stop, with regular rail services to Basingstoke and Andover and onward connections into London. A lively network of clubs, events and outdoor activities, including trout fishing on the Test, gives Whitchurch a pleasant mix of historic charm and contemporary village life.
