Fleet is a small town in the district of Hart in Hampshire, England, centered around Fleet Pond, the county's largest freshwater lake and a valued Local Nature Reserve. The pond and the River Hart give the town a green, waterside character, with popular walking routes, birdwatching and small sailing activities; the surrounding heathland and ponds contrast with the town’s suburban streets.
Historically Fleet expanded as a railway dormitory town in the 19th century and today it combines a compact town centre of shops, cafés and community amenities with a significant commuter population using fast rail and good road links to London and nearby employment hubs such as Farnborough and Aldershot. The local economy is largely retail and services, supported by strong schools and an active community scene, and the wider Hart area frequently scores highly in surveys of quality of life.
