Milton is a ward in the New Forest district of Hampshire, in southern England. It occupies the meeting point of heathland, farmland and coastal marshes on the fringes of the New Forest National Park, so the landscape alternates between wooded commons, open heath and tidal shoreline, making it popular for walking, birdwatching and informal conservation activity.
Socially and economically the area combines long-established rural communities with a significant commuter population who travel to larger towns for work; local life is centred on small shops, village halls and a few traditional pubs. Its history is reflected in commoning traditions and links to coastal trade, and contemporary issues tend to revolve around planning, conservation and maintaining public access to the surrounding countryside.
