Sopley is a small riverside village in the New Forest district of Hampshire, England, set on the banks of the River Avon close to the Dorset border. It lies a short drive from Christchurch and the coastal towns of Bournemouth and Poole, giving easy access to both New Forest heathland and the lowland Avon valley with its wet meadows and quiet lanes.
The village retains a genteel rural character, with historic features such as a medieval parish church and the old watermill at Sopley Mill. The local economy is largely agricultural with a fair number of commuters and a modest amount of leisure tourism - walkers, anglers and riders visit the area - while village life centres on the church, village hall and the picturesque cottages that line its lanes.
