The civil parish of Burton and Winkton sits on the eastern edge of the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole unitary area in Dorset, taking in the small settlements of Burton and Winkton. It lies close to the River Stour and the border with Hampshire, tucked between Christchurch and the New Forest, with low-lying farmland, water meadows and pockets of woodland defining the local landscape.
Historically agricultural with medieval roots and a number of old manor sites, the parish also has wartime interest - an Advanced Landing Ground was established near Winkton in 1944. Today it remains largely rural and residential, with farms, equestrian activity and small local businesses, popular with commuters to nearby towns and valued for its quiet riverside scenery and easy access to recreation in Christchurch and the New Forest.
