Andover Downlands is a largely rural ward on the chalk uplands to the west and south of Andover within Test Valley, Hampshire. The landscape is typical Hampshire downland – rolling chalk fields, hedgerows and pockets of ancient pasture and woodland – giving long open views and a strong sense of countryside on the edge of the town. Its position close to the A303 corridor and within the River Test catchment means it combines accessible commuting routes with classic chalk-stream scenery nearby.
Economically and socially the area remains agricultural, with arable farms, equestrian activity and smallholdings alongside residents who commute into Andover, Salisbury or Winchester. Local life is marked by village halls and community groups, conservation interests in chalk grassland and occasional archaeological traces of earlier settlement and trackways on the downs; that mix of quiet rural character and convenient links to larger towns is a defining feature.
