Golden Valley North is a mainly rural ward in west Herefordshire, lying along the wooded valley of the River Dore with rolling farmland, hedgerows and small clusters of cottages and hamlets. The landscape opens out to views towards the Black Mountains and the nearby Welsh border, with the market town of Hay-on-Wye not far to the north and long-distance routes such as the Offa's Dyke Path within easy reach.
Local life centres on agriculture, small family businesses and a modest tourism trade - walkers, cyclists and country-break visitors are common - while traditional parish churches, stone farmhouses and village halls reflect a long rural history. Community activity tends to be lively for a sparsely populated area, with village pubs and local events playing an important social role.
