Stanstead Abbotts is a riverside village and civil parish in East Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire, England, sitting on the banks of the River Lea opposite Stanstead St Margarets. Its position in the Lea Valley Regional Park gives the area a mix of green corridors, towpaths and waterside scenery, while nearby towns such as Ware, Harlow and Hoddesdon are a short drive away.
Historically the settlement grew around riverside milling and river trade and later light industry; today it is largely residential with local shops, pubs and active community groups, and is popular with commuters thanks to good road and rail links into London. The village retains a number of historic buildings and conservation areas, and its riverside setting makes it a pleasant spot for walking, cycling and watersports.
