The village and civil parish of Chorleywood lies in the district of Three Rivers in Hertfordshire, on the northern edge of the Chiltern Hills and set within the Metropolitan Green Belt. It is known for wide swathes of common and woodland such as Chorleywood Common, which are much used for walking, riding and outdoor recreation and give the area a distinctly semi-rural feel despite its proximity to bigger towns.
Historically the village grew with the coming of the railway and today is largely a prosperous commuter community with fast links into London. Local life mixes period houses and small businesses with active community groups, and the area has an unusual claim to fame: the Chorleywood bread process, developed locally in the 1960s, which revolutionised modern commercial baking.
