Lake South sits on the eastern seafront of the Isle of Wight, covering the southern part of the village of Lake between Sandown and Shanklin. The ward includes stretches of the Sandown Bay promenade and low-lying beaches and is served by the Island Line at Lake station, making it a very accessible slice of the island’s coast.
Originally developed in the Victorian era as a seaside resort, the area still leans heavily on tourism and hospitality - guesthouses, holiday parks and small independent shops - while also having a significant retired population. Local life is shaped by seasonal visitor peaks, seaside leisure and ongoing concerns about coastal management and housing for seasonal workers and residents.
