St Martin's is the most easterly inhabited ward of the Isles of Scilly, a small, low-lying island a short hop north‑east of St Mary's. It is best known for its long, silvery sandy bays such as Lower Town and Higher Town, sheltered coves and a landscape of meadows and lanes that make it a favourite for walkers, birdwatchers and anyone seeking a quieter island pace of life.
The community is tiny and close‑knit, with only a handful of year‑round residents and a largely seasonal economy centred on tourism, small‑scale agriculture and fishing; you’ll find a village hub with basic services, holiday accommodation and a simple local rhythm that still reflects the islands’ maritime and rural heritage. Historic traces of long settlement and the slow change between summer bustle and winter solitude give the island a quietly timeless character.
