Bunhill sits on the southern edge of Islington, straddling Old Street and City Road and rubbing up against the City of London. It is best known for the quiet, atmospheric greenspace of Bunhill Fields, a 17th–18th century burial ground where nonconformist figures were laid to rest, which gives the area a surprisingly historic, contemplative feel amid tight terraces, converted warehouses and newer developments.
Today the ward is a mixed urban patchwork: close to the Silicon Roundabout tech cluster and the creative buzz of Shoreditch, it combines startups and offices with long‑standing social housing and more recent residential schemes. That contrast - heritage sites and green pockets alongside rapid economic change and rising costs - is a striking part of the area’s character.
