Bishopsbourne is a small village about three miles south of Canterbury in Kent, England, set beside the seasonal chalk stream known as the Nailbourne and at the foot of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its rolling farmland, chalk escarpments and network of footpaths make it a pleasant base for country walks while remaining within easy reach of the city.
The village name, literally ‘bishop’s bourne’, reflects long historic links with the archbishops and the settlement retains medieval roots in its church and buildings. Today Bishopsbourne is largely residential with surrounding agriculture, a small local community and a quiet, village-centred social life rather than large-scale tourism, although it does attract walkers and visitors wanting a slice of rural Kent.
