Lydd is a small market town on the low-lying Romney Marsh in the district of Folkestone and Hythe, Kent, England. It sits close to the distinctive shingle headland of Dungeness, a landscape of wide skies, nature reserves and the nearby power station, and is served by the small regional Lydd Airport which gives the area an unusual mix of remote marshland and transport links.
The town has a long history as a medieval port and has traditional links with the Cinque Ports confederation; much local identity is tied to grazing, fishing and a past coloured by smuggling folklore. Visitors will notice the large medieval church of St Mary, a compact market-centred high street and a community with seasonal events and a strong rural character despite its proximity to quirky coastal attractions.
