The village of Brookland sits on the low-lying Romney Marsh in the district of Folkestone and Hythe, Kent, England. It occupies a slightly raised area of marshland close to the shingle headland at Dungeness and the small towns of Lydd and New Romney, giving it a windswept, open landscape and strong links with coastal nature reserves.
Historically the community was shaped by marsh drainage, grazing and coastal trade, with a compact settlement and a distinctive medieval church sitting on higher ground as a local landmark. Today Brookland remains a small rural village where agriculture, wildlife tourism and a few local businesses sustain village life, and it attracts birdwatchers, photographers and visitors drawn to the unusual Dungeness scenery.
