The village and civil parish of Old Romney sits on the raised edge of Romney Marsh in the district of Folkestone and Hythe, Kent, England. Once a medieval maritime centre, its harbour and channels gradually silted up and trade moved to neighbouring ports such as New Romney, leaving a quiet settlement near the distinctive shingle headland of Dungeness and the diverted course of the River Rother.
Today the community is small and largely rural, with agriculture (notably Romney Marsh sheep grazing) still important alongside heritage tourism attracted by a 12th‑century parish church, timber‑framed houses and the wide, flat marshes popular with walkers and nature enthusiasts. The parish’s mix of coastal ecology, long history and isolated charm gives it a particular appeal within South East England.
