The village of Hollingbourne lies on the scarp of the North Downs in rural Kent, a short distance south-east of Maidstone in England. Its position on the chalk downs gives sweeping views over the Weald and it sits close to the ancient route of the Pilgrims' Way, so the landscape feels distinctly downland and historic while remaining surprisingly accessible.
Hollingbourne shows its past in a medieval parish church, traditional timber-framed cottages and the footprint of old manor estates, and much of the surrounding countryside remains agricultural. Today the village mixes farming and conservation of the downs with a commuter element thanks to good road links to Maidstone and London, and retains an active community life centred on a village hall, pub and seasonal events.
