Tolworth is a suburban ward in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, sitting on the southern edge of south-west London beside the A3. It centres on Tolworth Broadway and the distinctive 1960s Tolworth Tower, with a mix of inter-war and post-war housing, some council estates and pockets of newer development; Tolworth railway station on the Chessington branch gives regular trains into London Waterloo and the A3 provides direct road links towards Kingston and Surrey.
The ward combines a modest local economy of shops, small businesses and light industry with an active community life of sports clubs and community centres. Historically it grew rapidly in the 20th century from a small hamlet, and today it’s a socially diverse area offering relatively affordable housing compared with central London while still being a short commute to cultural attractions such as Hampton Court Palace and Kingston’s riverside.
