Colne is a small market town in the borough of Pendle, in Lancashire, England, sitting at the eastern foot of Pendle Hill and surrounded by rolling countryside. It lies close to Trawden and the ruined village of Wycoller, with easy access to the Forest of Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales; the town grew beside the River Calder and is the eastern terminus of the East Lancashire Line at Colne railway station.
Historically a centre for cotton weaving and textile mills during the Industrial Revolution, many Victorian mill buildings and the town hall survive and have been repurposed for modern industry, housing and shops. Colne retains a strong local community feel with regular markets and events, and benefits from tourism linked to the surrounding hills and the wider Pendle area’s historic associations.
