Barwick in Elmet and Scholes is a civil parish a few miles east of Leeds in West Yorkshire, set on pleasant rolling countryside between the suburb of Garforth and the market town of Wetherby. The name preserves a link to the ancient Brittonic kingdom of Elmet, and the area still shows historic earthworks and long-established village cores that reflect medieval and earlier settlement.
Today the parish combines working farmland with commuter villages: many residents travel into Leeds while local shops, pubs, village halls and community groups keep an active social life. Good road links, conservation areas and regular village events give the place a distinctly rural character despite its proximity to the city.
