Parlington is a small, largely rural civil parish on the eastern fringe of Leeds in West Yorkshire, set around the remnants of a once-grand country estate near the village of Aberford. Much of the area is parkland, pasture and woodland rather than a built-up settlement, so it feels more like an historic landscape than a conventional village.
The parish is best known for the former Parlington Hall estate and its associated monuments and rides, reflecting its long association with a landed family; today those features, together with quiet lanes and paths, make the place valued for walking, wildlife and local heritage. Economically it remains largely agricultural with many residents commuting into nearby towns and the city of Leeds, and socially it tends to have a low, dispersed population with a strong interest in conserving the estate character.
