Gildersome is a small civil parish on the outskirts of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England, sitting between the urban centres of Leeds and Wakefield. It has good road links into the city and beyond and feels more semi‑rural than inner‑city, with a mix of Victorian terraces, later suburban housing and patches of countryside nearby that make it popular with commuters who work in the larger towns.
Historically the area grew through 19th‑century industry - textiles and coal played a part - and you can still see echoes of that industrial past alongside newer housing and small businesses. Socially it’s a close‑knit community with local clubs, pubs and parish activities that reflect both long‑standing residents and newer arrivals, giving the place a steady, village‑scale character inside the wider Leeds conurbation.
