Batley East sits within the metropolitan borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, covering the eastern side of the town of Batley with a mix of terraced streets, former mill buildings and pockets of green space such as Batley Park. The area was shaped by the 19th‑ and early 20th‑century textile and shoddy trades, and traces of that industrial past remain in the townscape and local architecture.
Today Batley East is a diverse, multicultural community with a strong South Asian presence, local shops and social centres, and sporting traditions centred on the town’s rugby league side and their ground at Mount Pleasant. Many residents work locally in small businesses or light industry, or commute into nearby Leeds and Bradford, while cultural highlights such as the Bagshaw Museum provide a focal point for local history and events.
