Pool is a small village and civil parish in the metropolitan borough of Leeds, in West Yorkshire, set on the southern edge of the River Wharfe valley and close to the market town of Otley. Its attractive riverside setting, stone-built houses and stretches of riverside meadow give it a distinctly rural feel despite being within easy reach of the city, and the village is popular with walkers who use the riverside paths and nearby countryside.
Historically the area grew from agriculture and small riverside industries, and today it functions largely as a commuter and local-service community with a village hall, primary school, pub and small businesses; there are also active local groups and events that keep a strong community spirit. The setting and conservation-minded character make it notable for people who want a peaceful village base while still having relatively good access to urban amenities.
