Bowthorpe is a suburban ward on the western edge of Norwich in Norfolk, England, largely built from the 1970s onwards on former farmland. It contains a mix of council and private housing, local shops, schools and community facilities, and benefits from good road links via the A47 and the Bowthorpe Park and Ride, making the city centre and the University of East Anglia readily accessible.
The ward has a strong community feel, with active residents’ groups, sports clubs and a number of small business and industrial areas that provide local employment. While the place-name hints at older settlement ('thorpe' meaning a small village), much of its character is that of a late 20th-century suburban estate set among green corridors and open spaces.
