Swainsthorpe is a small village and civil parish in the district of South Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk, England. It sits in gently rolling agricultural countryside about five miles south of Norwich, giving it a rural feel while being within easy commuting distance of the city; lanes, arable fields and scattered farmsteads characterise the local landscape.
The village has a long history reflected in its name - the ending “-thorpe” points to a secondary settlement of Old Norse or early medieval origin - and in a parish church with historic features. Economically the area remains largely agricultural, with some residents commuting into Norwich, and the community is small and close-knit, shaped by village life and occasional local events rather than any large industry. A former local railway halt served the area in earlier decades, reminding visitors of its quieter transport past.
