The seaside town of Clevedon in North Somerset, England sits on the north shore of the Severn Estuary, famed for its dramatic tides and wide views across the Bristol Channel towards Bristol and Wales. Its graceful Victorian pier, opened in 1869 and now Grade I listed, together with a pebble beach and elegant Georgian and Victorian houses, gives the town a distinctly period seaside character.
Historically a prosperous Victorian resort and home to the medieval manor Clevedon Court (now cared for by the National Trust), the town today mixes tourism with a commuter economy for nearby Bristol. Independent shops, cafes, sailing and birdwatching along the estuary, plus active local heritage groups, combine with an affluent, largely residential feel to make Clevedon popular with day-trippers and residents alike.
