Longbenton & Benton

The Longbenton & Benton electoral ward sits in the borough of North Tyneside on the eastern fringe of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is largely suburban, with a mix of mid-20th-century council housing and private estates, local shopping parades, schools and community facilities; the area is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro at Benton and Longbenton, providing quick links into the city centre and beyond.

Historically part of Northumberland, the neighbourhood was shaped by Tyneside’s coal and industrial past but today has a mixed local economy of small businesses, public-sector employers and commuters.
