Eggborough is a small parish in North Yorkshire, set beside the River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation near the county boundary with West Yorkshire. Its position between Selby and Pontefract gives easy access to regional routes, while surrounding arable land and drainage channels preserve a distinctly rural character.
The skyline and local economy were long dominated by Eggborough Power Station, which provided significant employment and shaped industrial development before its closure and partial redevelopment; nearby canal and rail freight links have encouraged energy-related projects and light industry. At the same time the parish retains village amenities and community groups, with residents balancing agricultural traditions and commutes to neighbouring towns.
