Kellington is a small rural village in the Selby district of North Yorkshire, England, sitting close to the county border with West Yorkshire and near the River Aire. The landscape is largely agricultural with hedged fields and commons, giving the village a quiet, outwardly traditional feel while being within easy reach of larger towns.
Historically the local economy has been shaped by farming and, until recently, nearby coal mining at Kellingley Colliery, whose closure in 2015 marked the end of an era for the area. Today many residents commute to workplaces at Selby, Pontefract or local industry such as Drax, while village life revolves around the church, primary school, a pub and community events that reinforce a close-knit social fabric.
