Eggborough is a small village in North Yorkshire, in the district of Selby, lying on largely flat agricultural land close to the boundaries with West Yorkshire and the East Riding. It occupies a convenient spot for regional transport, near the Aire and Calder navigation and the M62 corridor, and sits within easy reach of Pontefract, Goole and the market town of Selby.
For many years the skyline and local economy were dominated by the coal-fired Eggborough Power Station, which has since been decommissioned and is the focus of redevelopment, reflecting a shift from heavy industry to new uses. Today Eggborough feels like a typical small Yorkshire village: a mix of farming, commuter households and a close-knit community with local clubs and pubs, while nearby large energy sites such as Drax underline the area's continuing role in regional energy infrastructure.
