Long Preston is a compact village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, sitting on the gentle floodplain of the River Ribble where the A65 runs between Skipton and Settle. It is served by a station on the Settle-Carlisle line and sits on the eastern fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, giving easy access to limestone scenery, dales and moorland.
Traditionally an agricultural community that grew with the coming of the railway in the 19th century, the local economy still revolves around farming, small businesses and a number of commuters who prize the village’s transport links. The place retains plenty of traditional stone buildings, a lively village hall and community events, and it’s popular with walkers and people seeking a quieter rural life while remaining within reach of larger towns.
