Romanby is a village and civil parish on the northern fringe of the market town of Northallerton in North Yorkshire, England. Set in the low-lying Vale of Mowbray and close to the floodplain of the River Swale, it benefits from easy road links to surrounding centres and combines local agriculture with commuter housing and small-scale shops and services.
The village name reflects the area's long history - the “-by” ending points to Scandinavian influence - and today the community centres on its primary school, sports clubs (notably cricket and football), village halls and pubs. With strong ties to nearby Northallerton for markets, healthcare such as the Friarage Hospital, and employment, Romanby feels like a pleasant semi-rural suburb that still retains a distinct village identity.
