Selby sits on the banks of the River Ouse in North Yorkshire, once a busy medieval port and shipbuilding centre and still dominated by the 12th‑century spire of Selby Abbey. The town’s riverside position and the nearby Selby Canal give it a pleasant network of walks and a strong sense of local history.
