South Milford is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, lying on the eastern edge of the Leeds commuter area roughly midway between Leeds and Selby. Historically part of the old West Riding of Yorkshire, it grew from a mill-and-ford settlement and was shaped in the 19th century by railway development and nearby junctions that supported local industry and movement of goods.
The surrounding landscape remains largely agricultural but the village now functions as a commuter base with good road and rail links to Leeds, York and beyond. Local life combines traditional rural elements - a village hall, pubs, a primary school and community groups - with the practicalities and pressures of modern commuting and housing growth.
