Huthwaite is a former mining village in the district of Ashfield, in north Nottinghamshire, England, lying close to Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield and within easy commuting distance of Nottingham and the M1. It sits on gently rolling lowlands typical of the East Midlands and has a compact centre with local shops, community halls and green spaces that reflect its village scale despite being part of a larger post-industrial conurbation.
Historically the village grew in the 19th and 20th centuries around coal mining and associated trades, and that heritage still shapes local identity even as the economy has shifted to retail, light industry and commuting. There’s an active community life with sports clubs, annual events and neighbourhood initiatives aimed at regeneration and making use of reclaimed industrial sites, so Huthwaite often feels like a small place with a strong communal spirit.
