Linby is a small village and conservation area in the district of Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England, lying a few miles north of Nottingham and close to Hucknall and Papplewick. It sits beside the River Leen on the fringe of Sherwood Forest country, surrounded by farmland and woods with plenty of public footpaths that make it popular with walkers and day visitors.
The village retains a neatly preserved historic core with a medieval parish church, stone cottages and the remains of milling and industrial activity; it also has a coal-mining past, with Linby Colliery and nearby pits shaping the local economy in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today Linby is largely a quiet commuter village with a village hall, local clubs and a conservation-minded community that values its rural character and heritage.
