Selston is a village and civil parish in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire, England, sitting on the north‑western edge of the county near the Derbyshire border and between Mansfield and Nottingham. Historically the area was shaped by the Nottinghamshire coalfield and associated industries; the closure of pits in the 20th century left a patchwork of former mining terraces, newer housing and reclaimed woodland and countryside that are now popular with walkers and cyclists.
The parish incorporates the villages of Selston, Jacksdale and Underwood and supports a lively local community with village shops, sports clubs and regular events, centred around the parish church and community halls. Today it largely functions as a commuter and local service centre for the surrounding towns while retaining a semi‑rural feel and accessible green spaces on the fringe of the East Midlands urban area.
