East Stoke is a small rural village and civil parish in the district of Newark and Sherwood, in Nottinghamshire, England, sitting on the banks of the River Trent a few miles south of Newark-on-Trent. The setting is principally low-lying river meadow and arable farmland, crossed by quiet lanes and footpaths, which makes it popular with walkers and anglers and gives the area a peaceful, unspoilt feel.
The village is best known as the neighbourhood of the 1487 Battle of Stoke Field, often described as the last important engagement of the Wars of the Roses, and there are reminders of that history in the locality. Today the economy is largely agricultural with a scattering of historic buildings and a parish church; the community is small and close-knit, balancing rural traditions with easy access to nearby market towns.
