Gotham is a ward centred on the small village in the borough of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, a few miles to the south of Nottingham. It retains a compact historic core with a medieval church, listed cottages and a village green, and is famous for the old folktales of the "wise men of Gotham", a reputation that was later borrowed by Washington Irving when he nicknamed New York "Gotham".

Today the area mixes traditional agriculture and small local enterprises with a significant commuter population who work in Nottingham and beyond.
