Wales is a largely semi‑rural ward on the edge of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, centred on the village of the same name. It combines ribbon housing and small estates with open fields and footpaths, giving a village feel while remaining within easy reach of the larger towns; local amenities tend to be small‑scale - a parish church, village hall and a couple of traditional pubs - and the landscape is popular with walkers.
Like much of the borough the area bears traces of an industrial past alongside agricultural roots, and many residents commute into Rotherham, Sheffield or Doncaster for work. Community life is driven by local groups and village events, and there is an interest in conserving historic buildings and green spaces that give the ward its character.
