South Anston is a large village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, sitting on the county border close to Nottinghamshire and directly adjoining North Anston. The village has a mix of housing, local shops, a primary school and a parish church, and historically was linked to local sandstone quarrying which shaped much of the built environment.
Its standout feature is the nearby Anston Stones Wood National Nature Reserve, with dramatic sandstone outcrops, species‑rich grassland and attractive walking routes; the River Ryton also runs in the vicinity. Close enough to Sheffield and Worksop for commuting, South Anston combines a semi‑rural, community feel with easy access to larger urban centres.
