Walkden South is a largely residential ward in the City of Salford, sitting on the western edge of Greater Manchester. It combines post‑war and Victorian terraces with pockets of green space and local shopping parades, reflecting a past shaped by coal mining and the wider textile and transport industries that once dominated the area.
The ward has a strong community feel, served by schools, community centres and small businesses, and benefits from straightforward road and bus links into Manchester and surrounding towns. In recent decades parts of the area have been modernised and redeveloped while still retaining reminders of its industrial heritage - old terraces, railway and canal‑side influences - alongside easy access to nearby countryside.
