Walkden is a suburban town in the City of Salford, in Greater Manchester in England, historically part of Lancashire. It grew up in the 19th century around coal mining and related industries, and traces of that industrial past remain in the town’s layout and local landmarks.
Today Walkden is largely residential with good rail and road links into Manchester, making it popular with commuters, while local green spaces, a compact high street, sports clubs and community events give it a distinctly local character rather than a purely suburban feel.
